How to put a theme in my computer?? im using windows XP... help!?

i wanna change themes in my computer... problem is, i do not know how.

can someone tell me a step by step way of putting themes??

i also dont know where to get themes. if i download themes, its in .rar or .zip file...

i already have WinRar... but then, i stil do not know how to use the theme i downloaded.... plz help me...

First you will need a Plus! folder. set up this path by creating new folders

C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes

all of your themes will go in this folder. There are various sites you can look to find desktop themes. google for them, but be careful what you download. some themes are loaded with ads.

you'll likely download a zip file. not a problem. just place the zip file in your new theme folder, unzip and it should work just fine.



occassionally I have had to put a few things in place myself because something didn't work, but that is usually rare. It involves setting up the sounds in the control panel, placing the images in the correct spot in the display properties, and then in the display properties you can save that theme. keep the theme files in the theme folder even if it tries to save in you Documents folder

First of all, to use third party themes not from microsoft, you need to patch the uxtheme.dll file, to do so, download an automated patcher from here http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-E (this is for sp3, for sp2, try this http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-E )and run it. Now, download any theme for xp from any site, if it is a zip or a rar, unzip it using winrar. Now, the theme files will contain any of the .theme or .thm standalone file itself, to use it, just double click it and the customize desktop dialog will pop up. To install the theme and access it from the Desktop Right click properties, navigate to C:\Windows\Resources\Themes and paste the theme alongwith the folder it associate (if any) to this location.
